Skiing Do’s and Don’ts Never ski alone Never ski alone Learn to stop, do not just sit down or ski into deep snow Do not stop and stand in the middle of the piste Avoid stopping where the piste is narrow or in a hollow Look in all directions before starting off Obey signs and instructions
Skiing Dos and Don’ts Slow skiers have the right of way. Always dress for poor weather conditions. Do not ski through other lessons. Do not get on or off ski lifts except at marked areas. Always ski under control and within your ability. Be on time for your ski lessons. Always meet your group leaders at the set time & place.
Skiing Dos and Don’ts ON THE LIFTS Keep skis in ‘tram lines’ when on ski tows If you fall, move out of the way, AND WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS. Do not swing from side to side on a chair lift. On leaving a lift move away quickly to avoid congestion. If you lose your group go to the last lift you were at if at all possible. If not get to the nearest lift and inform the lift staff that you have lost your group OFF PISTE Carry skis correctly. Look after your ski equipment, it is very expensive. Do not ski on the road. Do not wear ski boots around the chalets. Know your boot and ski number and make sure you have yours
Behavioural Rules / Health and Safety Remember you are in Switzerland… Culture shock… Avoid being alone and don’t leave other students on their own. Listen to instructions carefully. Always meet at the set time and place.
Behavioural Rules / Health and Safety Be polite and sensible. Try to be adventurous with food which is offered to you. Remember that you are visitors in another country and that you are representing the school. Look after your belongings. School will not be responsible if you lose money or mobile phones etc…
Phoning Home You will be able to phone home. There are pay phones in the village. You can buy phone cards from the shop. We will organise trips into the village in groups. Do not disappear into the village without a member of staff. N.B. Letting those at home know you are having a great time is fine… but if you have a little problem (e.g. feel homesick, headache, etc… YOU MUST talk to your group leader first)
Mobile Phones You may bring a mobile phone with you. Don’t forget the charger and adaptor. Check beforehand that your phone will work in Switzerland. Reception can be poor. Have you got enough credit ? Whilst abroad, you have to pay for both incoming and outgoing calls and texts. We cannot be responsible for your phone. If you lose it, nothing can be done!
