Presentation transcript:

Creating a positive environment The vast majority of you are supportive of each other (and of our work with you) for the vast majority of the time…

‘Journey attentively, tirelessly, courageously…renew your hearts and communities.’ Pope Francis At staff training yesterday, all staff went through our basic expectations of you in college. Whilst the following is not an exhaustive list, it is a reminder of the way we do things around here.

Expectations about…. Eating and drinking Absolutely no chewing gum in college (students and staff) Food to be eaten in designated areas (dining areas) Only plain water allowed in drinking bottles in class

Expectations about …. Uniform No outdoor coats to be worn inside the building Only one pair of earrings for girls, no rings, bracelets, false nails, nail varnish Shirts tucked in Skirts not rolled over Blazers worn at all times Shoes not boots – except in extreme weather and at discretion of the Principal No make up – if I notice it you will have to take it all off

Movement around college Expectations about…. Movement around college Get to college and lessons on time – no waiting around for friends Line up quietly and in single file outside of class and wait for your teacher Ask for an out of class pass if you need to leave a lesson for any reason. Get    there and back quickly.  Staff will record on Sims how long you are out

Expectations about…. Technology Mobile phones to be switched off and put Into inside pocket of blazer or kept in your bag. They must not be used in class (unless under the direction of your teacher) or elsewhere inside the building Ear/Headphones should not be visible whilst around college No photos/recordings to be taken without staff permission

Expectations about…. Lessons Have all necessary basic equipment with you (e.g. pen, pencil, ruler, eraser, calculator) Have your homework diary with you in all lessons Engage fully in all learning activities Avoid being defiant or confrontational Stand up if a teacher/visitor enters the classroom Do your work to the very best of your ability Do homework well and hand in on time

Other Expectations…. General No smoking anywhere on site (cigarettes or e-cigarettes) Keep the place tidy. Put your litter in the bins Pick up litter if you see it, even if it isn’t yours

Why all these expectations? Boundaries create a POSITIVE environment and enable you and your teachers to foster mutually RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS Why do we have all these expectations? Because we want the very best outcomes for you in many aspects of your life – social, emotional as well as academic. We want you to be both respectful and respected We know where we are with each other.  Boundaries make it easier for us to to get along and function as a community with a shared set of values and beliefs.
