While SME is Travelling from A to B SME 50/30 Metre Rule 50 Metre Rule Definition. Before any Vehicle or pedestrian enters within a 50m exclusion zone around an SME, other than where segregated by a physical barrier, radio contact must be made with the operator. 50m 50m While SME is operating While SME is Travelling from A to B

SME 50/30 Metre Rule 30 Metre Rule Definition Prior to entering within a 30m exclusion zone around an SME, other than where segregated by a physical barrier, positive radio contact must be established, the operator of the SME must have parked, grounded all Ground Engaging Tools (GET), and be away from the controls of the machine.

SME 50/30 Metre Rule Scenario 1- Travelling on a roadway Always maintain 50m behind SME The red car is fine to pass as normal. The yellow car must maintain 50m distance from SME

SME 50/30 Metre Rule Scenario 2 - SME in operation Red Vehicle is not required to make positive radio communication as it is separated from the SME by a physical barrier Physical Barrier Yellow vehicle is not separated from SME by a physical barrier so MUST make positive radio communication at 50m & at 30m. SME must be parked (GET grounded & operator away from controls) before LV may approach within 30m

SME 50/30 Metre Rule Scenario 3 - SME approach LV SME must not approach within 50m of LV without positive radio communication. The SME is not allowed to operate within 30m of the LV so must not approach within 30m (unless there is a physical barrier in place)

SME 50/30 Metre Rule Remember: ALWAYS maintain 50m behind SME when travelling ALWAYS make positive radio communication before approaching within 50m of SME ALWAYS ensure SME is stopped (with GET grounded and operator away from controls) AND gain permission from SME operator before entering within 30m of SME. NEVER assume the SME operator has seen you, ALWAYS make positive radio communication.
