DISCIPLINE Teachers and administrators want to make sure your child understand our school rules and the consequences for very serious behavior.

My child understand the seriousness of a level 3 misconduct.

What happens if a student brings a knife to school? Police are called and the student is suspended for 10 days. If there is room, the student might be transferred to a safe school program at another school. If not, the student could be expelled.

Should my child go to the office and tell someone if I realize that I forgot to take my pocket knife out of my pocket before I came to school?

What is considered a weapon? Air Soft Guns are Weapons Possession/unlawful use of/transfer of dangerous objects designed/have potential to produce bodily harm are not allowed within 1,000 feet of any school or any conveyance owned, leased, or contracted by a school to transport student to or from a school or a school related activity. This shall include look-alike weapons, toy weapons, and imitation weapons that reasonably appear to be real weapons

What happens if you have a weapon? Parents are called. Your child will be suspended for 10 days. Your child will be expelled or sent to an alternative school. Remind your child to make positive choices and this will not happen to you. If you have questions, please call and ask.

Match the behavior to the consequence: Some of the misconducts below also include police involvement. Robbery and Theft 1st Time 3 day Suspension Vandalism 10 Days Suspension/Expulsion Weapon 5 Days OSS Drugs or Smoking/including E Cigarettes etc. 5-10 days Fighting Up to 10 days/Expulsion

Tell an adult right away What should your child do if he or she sees or hears about something that doesn’t belong in school. Tell an adult right away Sometimes it is hard to tell on an other student, but it is always the right thing to do. This is their school and we need to keep it safe for all students. If your child is aware of drugs or weapons in the school, tell a teacher or administrator. We will not give your child’s name to anyone. We also want to know if your child or another student is being bullied or if anything else is happening that you know isn’t right. We are all here to help you.

Have your reviewed the student planner with your child? There is a lot of important information in the planner. Make sure that you take some time to review the front section of your planner with your child. You need to know all of our school rules and consequences. Level 1 misconducts start on page1. Please review through page 31. 8th grader parents should make sure they review the bottom of p.13. Please help us to keep Northlawn a safe school!
