PLOT ANY POINT Solutions To Linear Equations

Interpret the equation y = mx + b as defining a linear function. COMMON CORE #13(Part 2) Interpret the equation y = mx + b as defining a linear function. We will be graphing two equations on each slide and find the solution of those two linear equations.

y = 3x – 4 y = x + 2 (3, 5)

y = 3x + 2 y = 4x (2, 8)

y = -4x + 1 y = -4x + 8 parallel or no solution

y = 2x + 1 y = 4x - 2 (1.5, 4)

y = 2x – 1 y = -4x + 11 (2, 3)

y = x + 4 2y = 2x + 8 Infinite Solutions

y = ⅔x + 7/3 y = -2x + 5 (1, 3)

PRACTICE PROBLEMS Find the solution of the following problems.

y = 3x – 3 1 y = 2x (3, 6)

y = -2x + 5 2 y = -2x – 5 no solution or parallel

y = -x + 3 3 y = -5x – 1 (-1, 4)

y = x – 3 4 y = ⅓x – 3 (0, -3)

y = x – 2 5 y = 2x (-2, -4)
