Dual Enrollment Options Presented by GCISD Counseling Department 2017 – 2018

What is Dual Credit? According to The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Dual Credit is a process by which a high school student enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both the college and the high school. While dual credit courses are often taught on the secondary school campus to high school students only, a high school student can also take a course on the college campus and receive both high school and college credit. How to Enroll? Notify your High School Counselor of your interest in participating. Apply for admission to Tarrant County College (TCC). There will be a set time when TCC will come to the high school campus to help students complete the online application (Apply Texas) and show the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA). How to Enroll? Take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment. The TSI Assessment (TSI-A) is the approved placement test used by educational institutions to assist in determining if a student is prepared for college-level courses and to aid institutions in making course placement decisions. Students will take the Reading, Writing, and Math portions of the TSI-A. Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) – Must be viewed before taking the TSI-A (mandated by State of Texas). Takes about 25 minutes. Potential dual credit students may take the TSI-A at the TCC Testing Center at no cost (including re-tests). Students may be exempt based on ACT or SAT scores. How to Enroll? Complete the Dual Credit Enrollment Form with your Guidance Counselor. This form indicates the specific courses in which you will enroll. The TCC Dual Credit Coordinator will pick up all paperwork and have students enrolled in the correct course section(s). Payment: Once students are registered for their course(s), they may pay for the balance online using their TCC WebAdvisor account or in person at any TCC Business Services Office. How to Enroll? 6) The Dual Credit Enrollment Form must be signed by student and counselor. It indicates specific courses the student will take. 7) On the deadline, the TCC Dual Credit Coordinator will pick up the completed packet to get the students enrolled in the correct course sections. 8) Once students are enrolled in class, they will need to make a payment either through their TCC WebAdvisor account or make a payment in person at any TCC Business Services Office.

Dual Credit Requirements Dual Credit students must meet all course prerequisite requirements before enrolling in classes. Students may enroll in up to 15 semester hours per semester. Students are required to make a TCC grade of “C” or better in all dual credit courses to continue in the Dual Credit Program. Tuition Costs $177 per course ($59/credit hour). Grant Funds may be available. High school students who have earned 24 college credits or more upon graduation save about $15,000. Dual Credit Textbooks After the student has received a Dual Credit schedule from their high school counselor, they can purchase their textbook(s) at any TCCD Campus Follett Bookstore. Deadline for Applications For students participating in Dual Credit for the 2017-2018 academic year, all testing and paper work must be completed by the TCC deadline: Friday, April 28th, 2017. GCISD Requirements Students must attend informational meeting in February (parents optional). Students may be required to attend a late summer or early fall mandatory orientation meeting at TCC or home high school campus (to be determined). Students must attend class on Fridays - transcripts, senior forum, etc (CHHS only). Students must follow ALL guidelines for application, testing, and registration.
