What is leadership as stewardship? Finding the right mix of leadership brand according to the situation and exercising power and influence in shepherding people appear to make or break leaders. Leadership must come to terms with using power and influence to govern people. Stewardship is about shepherding, enabling, and making people realize their full potentials as persons.
Two modes of stewardship Political stewardship - the service that Catholic schools ought to deliver to strengthen our political system Ecclesial stewardship - the shepherding that Catholic schools ought to render to the local church
On ecclesial stewardship Some good stories NSTP in parish work synergy between schools and local church Friendship built over the time between local church and school leaders
Some challenges and issues “peaceful co-existence” relationship lack of shared vision and programs of Catholic schools and local church diocesan and congregational schools divide personalities of school heads and church leaders
turfing, protectionism lack of appreciation of the local church and education uneasy with partnership privileging of congregational identity over Catholic identity
Some ways forward Proactive stance of Catholic schools to be of service to the local church Participation in various activities of the local church Active involvement of our students and faculty & staff in local church activities Confidence building happens when there is shared vision and programs between the local church and CEAP schools
Schools leaders to take active role in the life of the local church Moving away from parochial thinking toward more universal belonging Clarity of Catholic mission and identity of CEAP schools should be underscored sorting out congregational charism in relation to Catholic identity
