Creating an e-Portfolio Using Canvas and Googledrive ELD 2014-2015 Steps in Creating an e-Portfolio

Learning Targets: Today, I will be able to: login and create an ELD Portfolio using two school sites: my Googledrive and my Canvas. change my password to a safe and secure password I can remember for only my Googledrive account. Use English (L1) and my home Language (L2) interchangeably to explain sequencing, steps for creating portfolios, ask questions, respond to questions and translate key terms. Evidence of my learning: My spoken responses in (L1) or (L2) to questions asked (may be brief) and my (L1) to (L2) translations as appropriate when asked or called upon to or translate /interpret and summarize briefly. My ELD Portfolio Folder in Googledrive with 4 subfolders(reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and my Canvas ELD Portfolio named “my complete name”(i.e., “Lisa Burgess ELD Portfolio”) and publically shared.

Log into My Canvas Account My Canvas Account is:

For teachers: My log-in email is my name separated by a period: first For teachers: My log-in email is my name separated by a period: first.last@sweetwaterschools.org my password is: your password when you log into the computer

For students: My log-in email is my name separated by a period: my ID # my password is: my birthdate, i.e, 05131998 the info is the same as when you log into the school’s computer

My Canvas Home Page:

In my class course I can look for assignments and calendar

I go to my COURSE in COURSES then to Settings

I see Settings on top right and CLICK:

Once I click on e-Portfolio I am at the e-Portfolio “home” page: Find the “Getting Started Wizard”

e-Portfolio in canvas I go to (course) Settings on the top right; then click e-portfolio on the bottom left

I want to make a NEW e-Portfolio: I name my e-Portfolio. Example: My first name and last name , the date and class: Lisa Burgess 2014-2015 ELD ½. I also can make it PUBLIC—so my classmates can search for it and view it, too.

I can download and save my entire e-Portfolio!

Check for Understanding Are we all ready? Did we Create and Name out Portfolio? Good! We will now go to Googledrive and create our e-Portfolio folder with 4 subfolders: Reading Writing Listening Speaking

Creating a School e-Portfolio folder in Googledrive Open Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Open the Googledrive account page(search) Log-in with my ###@sweetwaterschools.net account and my birthdate. Change password from birthdate to a safe, secure memorable password Write down or take a picture of my school account and secret password written down, email the picture to myself at my PERSONAL email, delete the picture from my phone(keep things safe!).

What if I Already Have A gmail Account!? Do NOT open your gmail account. That is a personal account. You will use your Googledrive Account for SCHOOL—it is NOT Private—it is to be public so your classmates and teachers can share, create, and view classwork and projects. Keep private accounts private and separate from school accounts. School accounts may be viewed by teachers, classmates, the principal, the district teachers or a tester(the person who gives you the CELDT test) and your parents—all want to see how you are doing in ELD and you want to show off your hard work and great projects, right? Remember, keep school accounts appropriate for school.

Googledrive 3. Sign-in with your Googledrive email: 2. Go to: FIRST.LAST @ sweetwaterschools.net 2. Go to: www google.com in the address bar 1. Use: CHROME Googledrive

My School Drive email Page:

Your GoogleDrive Home Page

Once You are in GOOGLE DRIVE You will create a NEW FOLDER named: ELD Portfolio

Click CREATE on the left

You will CREATE

After I create my ELD Portfolio FOLDER I work to create folders inside it.

Name New Folders in Googledrive

I created a folder in a folder in Googledrive

Creating more folders in my ELD Portfolio Folder in Googledrive

I create four e-Portfolio sub-folders: Reading, Writing, Listening AND Speaking:

If I want to upload files or folders from the desktop

I can drag files or folders from my desktop

Adding files into folders:

I want to share my Folder or File: Add the person’s email, then Click Change to “Share Settings”: View Edit OR comment

Share!

Make sure you share your file or folder with People!

Other Share Options

E-mailing My Teacher I can email through Canvas: I can share through Googledrive: Practice doing both now: Other ways: My teacher’s work e-mail is: FIRST.LAST@sweetwaterschools.org

Next Steps(for future lessons) Learn to Upload media into Googledrive. Link Googledrive files to Canvas ELD e-Portfolio. Help me understand today’s lesson by sharing the following: I want to learn how to . . . I am confused about . . . I learned how to . . .
