Curriculum Arizona Standards in Social Studies and Science Arizona College & Career Readiness Standards in Math, Reading, Writing Quarterly curriculum maps available online

Infinite Campus (gradebook) CUSD website Parent Portal and student portal Instructions and codes to sign up (even on your phone!)

Leadership Conferences Aug 30 – Aug 31 Students lead conference with parents and teacher Meet with Homeroom teacher only Specific subject concerns can addressed at ANY time

Mascot and Dress Code Red, white or blue collared shirts. No logos Tan or dark blue bottoms PTO will be selling an additional shirt option Free dress on Fridays (must follow CUSD guidelines)

Pick up and Drop off Campus opens at 8:15 am Front of school pickup/dropoff line Park and walk student to crosswalk South side:  CAN NOT drop off their student from car.  ALL parents must PARK and meet at crosswalk CAN NOT use the parking lot as a drop off or use the handicap spots to drop off

Mathematics McGraw Hill math book The students will have online access soon but will need to have their book and notes with them at all times. Homework is Monday through Thursday (might have some Fridays, depending on quizzes or tests) Students can retake any in-class assignments, quizzes, or tests once for half points back

Language Arts – Journeys Reading across the curriculum Textbook highlights all necessary skills prior to April testing Lit studies

Language Arts – Spelling Spalding (done in HR’s) Weekly word list with test on Friday 30 words 20 phonograms 1 rule Daily homework from spelling city or menu Monday through Thursday.

Social Studies – United States Exploration -Geography -Explorers Colonies -American Revolution -Civil War -Westward Expansion -Industrial Revolution Government -Democracy -Economics -Current Events

Science 1st Quarter Solar System Objects in Space 2nd Quarter Human body systems 3rd Quarter Matter Science Fair 4th Quarter Force and motion Simple Machines

Project Lead the Way Schoolwide STEM learning program. 5th grade robotics modules Hands-on inquiry iPads

Practice and Agendas Reading log – 30 min WIG 100 non fiction books per quarter per class (each student must read 5 points of non-fiction per quarter) Daily record of in-class work and homework Important Announcements

Backpack load… Leadership binder and agenda 5 colored subject folders 1 library folder Spiral notebooks – some are left in classroom Math consumable AR book (limit the number of books)

Field Trip – Challenger Space Center Beginning of May NEED Tax credit donations!

Tax Credit Donations $77 fifth grade fee Chandlerdonations.org **if everyone pays $77, the cost will not be covered. We need tax credit donations up to $250 (single) and $400 (married) to be fully funded.
