Golding uses a cut-away strategy to shift us from one scene to another and then back, something that has not occurred thus far in the book. The technique is necessary for the dramatic effect of speeding up time. As the boys are splintering off into groups, Golding allows us to witness concurrent activities using techniques similar to what movie or television crews use.
