Environmental Issues in Kosova

Environmental Degradation in Kosova A state of waste that manages very little waste using antiquated technologies High industrial pollution ( lignite coal is used to produce roughly 98% of energy) Waste water treatment facilities for waste waters are non-existent. Poor waste management programs for industrial waste

Environmental Degradation in Kosova Low waste separation and recycling Prevalent use of farming lands and deforestation for construction purposes Low environmental awareness and knowledge Natural resource abuse

Environmental Degradation in Kosova Environmental degradation an increasing challenge for the country’s government Both central and local governments lack the needed capacities to address environmental problems. Kosovo has adopted an extensive environmental legal framework yet just like with any other laws, this one is also just another one on the paper that it is not being implemented.

Environmental Degradation in Kosova Low funding for investments for adequate waste management Lack of proper infrastructure for storing and handling hazardous waste. Hazardous waste is either exported or “mixed with household waste in landfill sites” (Fajardo, T, 2015, p. 28), More than 400 illegal landfills
