Carbon Footprint What is carbon footprint ? A carbon footprint is historically defined as "the total set of greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual, event, organisation, product expressed as CO2 e.” The total carbon footprint cannot be calculated because of the large amount of data required and the fact that carbon dioxide can be produced by natural occurrences. It is a measure of the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) emissions of a defined population, system or activity, considering all relevant sources, sinks and storage within the spatial and temporal boundary of the population, system or activity of interest.

Explanation on carbon footprint in food Teachers explained the importance of healthy food in classes 3-5 in which they covered following points :- Balanced diet A balanced diet is not a crash diet, it is a way of eating all of the right nutrients that our body needs in order to be healthy. Carbon foot printing in food Food's carbon footprint, or foodprint, is the greenhouse gas emissions produced by growing, rearing, farming, processing, transporting, storing, cooking and disposing of the food you eat.

Student of classes 3 to 5 described the project to their classmates After this activity a questionnaire was distributed to the students for checking their understanding of the topic A debating session followed for the students of class 5 on the topic “ Vegetarian Vs Non-Vegetarian Food

Graphical representation Food in descending order of their carbon emission

Food with less carbon emission vs. food with more carbon emission Important diet for vegan dieters include Vitamin-D, Vitamin-B , Calcium , Iron , Zinc, omega-3 fatty acids these type of food items emit less carbon as well as vegan diet lower the body mass index(BMI).and chronic disease risk. One should change attitude from “fast and fried tastes best” to a fresh better approach and spread “green environment” vegan reduce footprint in terms of wasting water and landscape . Eating fewer meat and dairy product and consuming more plant foods in their place is probably the single most helpful behavioral shift one can make “to reduce food related greenhouse gas emission”.
