Product Profiles Kerala Investment Potential Products based upon Acrylic Acid from Propylene Derivatives Petrochemical Project (PDPP) of BPCL Kochi Refinery (BPCL KR) Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Sep 2017 Disclaimer: The findings contained in this document are based on the initial information collated through primary and secondary research, which is indicative in nature. Reference herein to any specific commercial product, process, service by trade name, trademark, manufacturer, or otherwise, does not constitute or imply its endorsement, recommendation, or favouring by KSIDC or any entities thereof. It is, however, advisable to get a detailed feasibility study prepared before taking a final investment decision.

Acrylic Acid (Propene acid) is a clear, colourless, corrosive and flammable liquid that has an acrid/pungent smell is miscible with water, alcohol, ether, benzene, chloroform and acetone. It is a very versatile, and valuable, industrial chemical as it is a chemical intermediate utilised in the production of many industrial and consumer products IUPAC Nomenclature: Propenoic acid Chemical Formula: CH2CHCO2H Potential Products : Important industrial chemical as it is a chemical intermediate,  paintings, paper, adhesives and polishes, raw material for Super Absorbent Polymer which is used in diapers and also raw material for acrylic paints Miscible with alcohol, ether, and many other organic solvents Clear and colorless liquid that finds extensive use, owing to its chemical structure that facilitates easier combination with large chain of compounds forming polymers highly refractive, flammable, colorless liquid PROPERTIES Miscible with water

Origin Parameter Description Plant Acrylic Acid Unit, Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP) of BPCL- KR Raw Material Propylene and Synthesis Gas Quantity 47 KTPA Process description Produced by vapour-phase oxidation of Propylene.  This process involves two reactors, with the first reactor converting Propylene to Acrolein and the second reactor converting Acrolein to Acrylic Acid

Technical Information Parameter Description Supplied Drums 200 litre capacity Physical Form Colourless, mobile solvent of medium volatility miscible with all common solvents, e.g. alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, ethers, glycols and aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons Density at 20 °C 0.809 - 0.813 g/cm3 Boiling range 116 -118 °C

Other Uses - Acrylic acid is used in the field of application of • plastics • paper manufacture and coating • exterior house paints for wood and masonry • coatings for compressed board and related building materials • flocculation of mineral ore fines and waste water , and treatment of sewage • printing inks • interior wall paints • floor polishes • floor and wall coverings • industrial primers • textile sizing, treatment and finishing • leather impregnation and finishing • masonry sealers
