Searching for Inquiry-Based Practices Look Fors in the 3D Science Classroom

Agenda 3-D Science Instructional Shifts What is it? Who will be involved? 2017-2018 Implementation What are the look fors? What should I hear and see? How will it be monitored? What artifacts should be produced? What monitoring tools are available? Use the collaborate function to communicate out your findings for the indicators. Note the differences you noticed, what you liked, what may pose a challenge. Based on this, what are some practices or what should you see or hear?

What is Science in 3D? Practices: “what scientists & engineers do 3-Dimensional Learning …students use practices, disciplinary core ideas, and crosscutting concepts to make sense of phenomena and/or to design solutions to problems. Focus on explaining phenomena or designing solutions Coherence: building and applying ideas across time Practices: “what scientists & engineers do Explaining Phenomena & Solving Problems Cross-Cutting Concepts: “how scientists & engineers think” Content: “what scientists & engineers know”

Sorting the Practices: Each standard begins with Obtain, Evaluate, and Communicate Sort the practices by opportunities to: Gather (Obtain) Reason (Evaluate) Communicate
