OBJECTIVES DESCRIBE TWO TYPES OF WEIGHT TRAINING. THERE ARE TWO BASIC KINDS OF WEIGHT TRAINING: STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT AND BODYBUILDING. COMPARE FREE WEIGHTS AND MACHINES. FREE WEIGHTS: INCLUDE DUMBBELLS, BARBELLS, AND CURL BARS. MACHINES :USE A SYSTEM OF PULLEYS TO LET YOU CONTROL THE WEIGHT AS YOU LIFT IT. MACHINES ARE DESIGNED FOR A SPECIFIC MUSCLE GROUP. LIST SEVEN SAFETY TIPS FOR LIFTING WEIGHTS. 1. Use a spotter. 2. Lift weights in pairs or in small groups. 3. Free weights must be secured to the bar. 4. Make sure to understand how a machine works. 5. Lift only as much weight as you can lift with the correct form. 6. Exercise both sides of a joint to prevent injury. 7. Always use correct form.
