Consequences & Rewards Behavior Calendar If a student chooses to break a rule they will receive a mark in their red folder (this is after a warning): 0-2 Marks = E 3-6 Marks = S 7 or more = N The marks will be totaled at the end of the nine weeks to receive their conduct grades. Daily folder will be sent home every day marked with any concerning behavior for the day. It will be left blank if they had a great day! Rewards: Punch cards Compliment chain Cougar bucks Having their folder every day is important.

Homework Daily Folder: it is sent home everyday. It needs to be initialed every night and returned every day. Homework: homework calendar is located on my teacher website (Edlio) in a google doc. This is a way for you to review and extend your child’s learning at home. The topics on the calendar are the same topics that we will be covering in class. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FSYiSb0N8IQA3SO3lhtHWfUsKa7KXtigF3heJ1JR4Zw/edit Reading Book: this will be located in the daily folder. We will be sending home books a few times each week as a way for your child to practice their reading skills and fluency. The book must be returned everyday. If your child loses a book, it will cost $5.00 to replace it. Wednesday Folder: it is sent home every Wednesday and returned on Thursday. All school notes will be sent home this way.

Reading Expectations - students are expected to be reading on a Level C by the end of the year. If your child is already at a C we will continue to move forward and challenge them. Reading Strategies – the student will be learning multiple strategies to help them figure out words that they don’t know. Sight words – these are words that are used often in our stories and it is important to know them. The list is on my teacher website. Comprehension – the students must be able to understand, retell, and answer questions about the story.

Literacy Stations It is a daily literacy structure that teaches independence and helps create a love of reading and writing. I will be pulling small reading groups during this time. There are 5 tasks: Read to Self Read to Someone Listen to Reading Work on Words Work on Writing

Writing Writers Workshop – Phonetic writing It begins with a mini-lesson and modeling. The students will then be writing independently for 25 minutes, while I conference with students. Phonetic writing example: A ball is big and red. Phonetically written: A bl is bg ad red. Word wall words (sight words) The student is expected to write these words correctly.

Math Hands on! Interactive! Problem Solving Journals Student will be expected to explain and justify their answers. We want them to be problem solvers!

Interested in Volunteering (Parent Readers and Take Home Activities) There are often times that I need things made or cut out for our classroom. If you are interested in helping here and there, please sign up on my website! I will contact you when needed and send the materials and directions home with your child.

Parent Conference: Please sign up for a parent conference on my teacher webpage. Room Mom Sign Up: If you are interested in being a room mom please sign up on the shelf in the middle of the room. Room moms will help plan holiday parties and do a few other activities with me and the class throughout the year.

Thanks! I am looking forward to a great year.
