Voicethread An Introduction

What is Voicethread? Voicethread is both an online presentation tool and the presentations it creates You create voicethreads with Voicethread

What is Voicethread? A voicethread is a series of slides, similar to powerpoint – but more interactive Each slide consists of a file (a picture, movie, document, etc.) described and accented by voiceovers, captions, and drawings

What is Voicethread? Here is an example: http://ed.voicethread.com/share/61075/

How is Voicethread better than PowerPoint? You can display files using PowerPoint, create captions, and speak about them Aren’t Voicethread and PowerPoint basically the same?

No - There is one big difference Users can interact with each other to collaborate and comment on each other’s work

The Differences between PowerPoint and Voicethread After a voicethread has been created, it can be viewed and edited from any computer with internet access Multiple users can work on the same voicethread from different locations Users can leave video, voice, or text comments, leaving their opinions to add to the voicethread

The Benefits of Comments Here’s an example of what comments can do: http://ed.voicethread.com/share/62276/

The Benefits of Comments Teachers can leave comments on student work Students can leave comments on each others’ work Students can respond to comments left on their work Students can answer questions, share opinions, and more

The Benefits of Comments Comments may be made public, private, or be deleted at any time You can change the status of a comment as many times as you want

How does Voicethread work? It is very easy to use Teachers have administrative control and can add student users to the account Every user on the account can create and collaborate on voicethreads to share with the class

Is Voicethread safe for classroom use? Privacy Issues Is Voicethread safe for classroom use?

Privacy Issues Educators can control the privacy settings for every individual voicethread created using the account You can choose to keep voicethreads private, share them with just the class, or share them with every member of the Ed.Voicethread network You can change the settings of any voicethread at any time

Privacy Issues Even if you choose to share your voicethreads with the Ed.Voicethread network, every user on the network is a verified student or educator at a K-12 school

Privacy Issues You can also still control the privacy settings for comments Each comment can be made visible only to the teacher, visible to everyone who can see the presentation, or deleted

How can Voicethread be used in the classroom?
