FlashDrive Update – Business Manager’s Group What is the project about? Define the goal of this project Is it similar to projects in the past or is it a new effort? Define the scope of this project Is it an independent project or is it related to other projects? * Note that this slide is not necessary for weekly status meetings 12/5/2011

In June 2010, the Administrative Review and Restructuring Working Group issued a report to the President and Chancellors of the University of Illinois. Contained in this report, the Working Group recommended that the Illini Union assume responsibility for all retail activities to students, faculty and staff. Recommendation 35: That all retail activities – sale of merchandise or services to students, faculty, staff or visitors for personal use – be consolidated within the Auxiliary System; and specifically in the Urbana campus within the Illini Union. Several units at the Urbana campus are currently engaged in retail activities. Consolidation within the Auxiliary system will assure for full cost recovery through overhead assessments. The scope of this proposal would include but not be limited to course materials (textbooks, course packets, and classroom supplies), computer hardware, software and peripherals, photocopying, digital printing and print on demand, and insignia merchandise.

Implementation Benefits Will reduce operating and staff expenses to state and campus funded units Will provide increased revenue support to the university and campus (through overhead assessments) Will allow for reduction of fee support to the Illini Union making such funds available for redirection at the campus level, or a reduction in the cost to attend the University of Illinois Will comply with industry standards for marketing, service delivery, inventory control, Point of Sale Systems, and compliance with local, state and federal guidelines and regulations Will increase buying power through a central purchasing and distribution model Will put the university in compliance with the Federal Government Higher Education Act that requires all course materials to be located in one central location Will allow for growth of technology sales and efficiencies in digital printing and copying operations Will increase convenience to the students, faculty and staff of the University of Illinois through seven day per week operation * If any of these issues caused a schedule delay or need to be discussed further, include details in next slide.
