2016 2017 Further Skills Day What will the day include? Choose the date and venue which suits you best. Time: 10:00 – 16:00 (coffee from 09:30) Foundation Day and Further Skills Day on ‘Growing through Conflict’ Further Skills Day What will the day include? The aim of this day is to practise skills in conflict transformation in the context of church leadership. The kinds of skills we’ll cover will include: Rapport building and establishing relationships Opening up difficult conversations, and seeing wider perspectives Coming to decisions in good and helpful ways Who is it for? The Foundation Day is intended for all in leadership in our churches for example: clergy, elders, deacons, readers, OLMs, youth leaders, mission leaders, licensed or commissioned lay leaders. The Further Skills day is is designed for those who have already taken part in the Foundation Day. How much will it cost? £45 (waged) £35 (unwaged). Financial support may be available through your denomination. Please don’t let finance determine your participation – contact us for ideas. All refreshments, including lunch, will be provided. Who will facilitate the day? The day will be facilitated by Place for Hope Team Members, trained as mediators and facilitators. How do we sign up? About Place for Hope Place for Hope accompanies and equips people and faith communities so that all might reach their potential to be peacemakers who navigate conflict well. Our Team provides training as well as help and accompaniment for individuals, churches and faith groups struggling with difference or conflict. We want every community to be a place for hope. The ‘Growing Through Conflict’ Foundation Day is adapted from an original programme devised by Churches Together in Cumbria. 2016 Thursday 15 September North Berwick St. Andrew’s Blackadder Parish Church Monday 19 September Perth Letham St. Marks Parish Church Wednesday 28 September Edinburgh Augustine United Church Growing through Conflict: Foundation Day and Further Skills Day Our churches face change, encounter difference and can struggle to manage conflict. We know conflict can be both creative and destructive. Place for Hope is offering: a one-day foundation course in recognising and responding to conflict for those in leadership roles in our churches, and a further skills day for individuals keen to develop these skills Foundation Day What will the day include? 1. Understanding conflict: We will share what we mean by conflict, and how it ‘looks’ in our churches; we will also begin to explore our different approaches to conflict, and how we respond. 2. Conflict transformation skills: Working with real life scenarios, we will explore skills like: how to work constructively with disagreements in groups and meetings; how to ‘lower’ the level of conflict; making good decisions in groups. 3.
