Percents Greater that 100% or Less than 1% What You’ll Learn To use percents greater than 100% or less than 1%

Percents Greater that 100% or Less than 1% A percent is a ratio that compares a number to 100. If the number compared to 100 is greater that 100, the percent is greater that 100% If the number compared to 100 is less than 1 the percent is less than 1%

Example 1: Rewriting Percents Greater than 100 110% = ? 110% = 1.10 110% = 110/100 = 11/10 = 1 1/10 Convert percent to decimal Move decimal two places to the left Write decimal as a fraction Place percent over 100 Simplify the fraction

Example 2: Rewriting Percents Less Than 1 0.7% = ? 0.7% = 0.007 0.7% = 0.7/100 = 0.7/100 x 10/10 = 7/1000 Write percent as a decimal Move decimal point two places to the left Write percent as a fraction Place percent of 100 Remove decimal by multiplying numerator and denominator by 10 simplify

Practice Write 125% as a decimal and as a fraction Practice: Text page 302 # 1-12

Example 3: Writing Mixed Numbers as Percents 1 7/8 = ? Convert 7/8 to decimal 8 7 = 0.875 Add whole number to decimal 1 + 0.875 = 1.875 Convert decimal to percent Move decimal two places to the right 187.5

Write each mixed number or decimal as a percent 3 5/12 2 4/5 1.71 4.005 Practice: Text page 303 # 13-21 Assign Pr 6-3
