The Trnava Region

Geography The Trnava region is one of the smallest regions of Slovakia in terms of both area and population. The region has common borders with three countries: Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria. The area is rich in water resources, with the rivers Danube, Váh and Morava.

City Tower The City Tower (in Slovak Mestská veža) is one of the most important historic monuments of Trnava. The tower has a square ground plan in the shape of a solid prism with eight floors and is 57 metres high.

St. John the Baptist Cathedral The Cathedral is the first purely Baroque building built in present-day Slovakia. The biggest treasure of the whole interior is the colossal main altar which was finished in 1640. The interior of the Cathedral amazes a visitor with its massiveness and variety of unique paintings.

Famous people Anton Bernolák, priest, writer, the author of the first Slovak language standard. Karol Dobiáš, football player Maximilian Hell, Slovak astronomer Taťána Kuchařová, Miss Czech Republic World 2006 Sámuel List medical docter at Nagyszombat University 1777.
