Unit 5: Working with Parents and Others in Early Years
Presentation transcript:

Lesson objectives Know: That computers are more suited to some tasks than others Understand: That computers affect the way people work and the jobs they do Be able to: Explain why using a computer to control the environment in a greenhouse would be preferable than relying on a human.

Computers or people?

Task 1 Controlling systems Requires a great deal of training and skill Needs to be able to operate continuously Requires training and needs worker to be alert for anything else which might be wrong Needs precision and every single job must be done in the same way Needs to be able to operate continuously Continuous, repetitive task Humans might not be able to judge distance accurately and might make a mistake Involves observing symptoms and making judgements Too dangerous for people, risk of explosion

Making theme parks look attractive

Control Systems What do plants need to make them grow? What conditions may change in a greenhouse?

Plenary Does a zebra crossing use control system? Name another type of road crossing that uses control What are the differences between a pedestrian and a zebra crossing?

Homework task Use the Internet and do some research on sensors such as temperature, light, humidity. Write a short report explaining what you found out, accompanied by pictures.
