Welcome to the 2016-2017 wrestling season

Jim Jackson Shakopee Wrestling   All levels of The Shakopee Wrestling program are important and everyone matters We will win with class and lose with dignity To get our program to the next level we must put in more mat time 3-5 hours per week on the mat for 10 months                         Spending time on the mat WILL make you a better athlete. Attend a National Tournament (when you qualify) Invite one teammate or friend to join the wrestling team. Hard work WILL pay off

New Parent/Wrestler Orientation Jason Zitzmann We’ve all been there! Typical practice Types of regular season tournaments: MN/USA Qualifiers - more competitive Open tournaments Qualifiers “qualify” your child for entrance to the state tournament based on points (25 pts needed) (1) 1st place finish is 40 points – qualifies for state (1) 2nd place finish is 25 points – qualifies for state (1) 3rd place finish is 10 points – need 3

New Parent/Wrestler Orientation Club has “coach attended” tourneys – check Facebook weekly for updates. Ask for a coach prior to your wrestler’s match Tournament uniform – Mat Club t-shirt, singlet, headgear, shoes, personal preference items (mouth guard, knee pads, etc.) Keep wet wipes in your wrestler’s backpack You can independently go to tournaments Rule of thumb for # of tournaments – match your child’s age Get to know your coaches & team techs. We will help talk you through tournaments & who’s attending Ask other parents about tournaments & who’s attending Practice behavior – If you’re in attendance, please help maintain discipline
