Career Choices Textbook It’s important that we follow the material in the Career Choices textbook in sequence because each part build on the previous part. This is why it’s important to keep up with the work. Often one assignment might refer you back to a previous assignment and if that assignment is not done you will not be able to move forward NO ONE passes Freshman Focus unless his/her 10 year plan is complete up to what is covered in class.

15 Year Plan Why write a fifteen year plan? to help you realize your goals and dreams to teach you a systematic process for choosing your future career and life direction.

Vision + Energy = Success Vision and energy are the most important elements in getting what you want in life. Vision is your dream Energy is the action you must take To be successful you must have both vision and energy Read pg. 10-12 Complete the page that matches pg. 13 in your workbook

Envisioning your future Imagine your ideal career. What is the setting? What are your tasks? Are you working alone or with others? How do you feel about yourself? Read pg. 14 and write out your vision as of now…remember it is ok to change your mind as you discover more about yourself.

Defining Success Success is the achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted. Success comes when you achieve something that is important to you Complete the page that matches pg. 18-19 in your workbook

Making Career Choices Read pg. 20 and complete the page that matches pg. 20 in your workbook After reading through each scenario, what does your definition of success look like? Complete the page that matches pg. 21 in your workbook.

Job or Career there IS a difference A job is a particular task. It is usually done with very little preparation or training. Can be paid or unpaid. A career is something you prepare and/or train for. It encompasses all of your life’s work. Finish reading pg. 21

Be Self Directed Meaning, under one's own control. Showing initiative and the ability to organize oneself. It’s your life and future you must direct it. You should strive for self direction if you want to successfully manage the changes and challenges in life.
