Introduction Do you like working with kids? Being a pediatrician requires a lot of patience and time to deal with sick children. Sometimes they can have severe illnesses or just the flu. The one thing that has me interested in this career is being able to work with children. A couple of things I will be researching are how much the salary is, the working environment, and the work schedule.

Nature of work Caring for children any from newborns to young adults Giving vaccines Prescribing medication for an illness Monitoring chronic diseases (Juvenile Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis, etc.) Tracking the growth and development of patients Encourages healthy lifestyle for patient and parents

Working Conditions Physical Activity Working indoors Working with other people Has specific working hours Has a high salary

Training/qualifications Need a doctorate Requires at least 8 years of college 2 years medical school, 2 years residency Planning on going to either Stanford, U of M, or MSU Classes I will take now are the cooperative program for medical school at Lake Shore High School

Job outlook/employment Employment rate- faster than average (rising at 18% over next 10 years) This field isn’t competitive Find the career openings in Florida or Michigan Desire to work at St. John’s Hospital or Henry Ford

Earnings Starts out at $85.00 per hour Can earn up to $115.00 per hour Salary can be anywhere from $150,000 to $400,000 Lifestyle goals are to have a healthy family with 2 kids, a nice house, a good career with money in the bank, a nice car, and a beautiful wife First purchase will be a 2 story house in Florida that is fenced off

Related occupation Pro Baseball player Responsibilities – Field ground balls, catch baseballs, workout, don’t do drugs, hit baseballs Outdoors, rain or shine, working with people/things Need to workout everyday, run at least 5 miles every day, take Sundays and Saturdays off Outlook is very slim, need to be the best of your college squad Earnings are very nice; at least 500,000 per player I choose this career because I am good at baseball and it has always been a dream of mine to play professional baseball.

Summary I feel really good about studying and pursing this career as I grow older because I love working with kids and helping them. I look most forward to seeing little kids walk into a room healthy and happy. I look least forward to having little children possibly getting me sick. I feel like this career will be a good learning experience for me because I will be learning more about how children act. This career could also prepare me for when I have kids.
