USSOCOM SOFPREP 3D Geospatial Modeling & Simulation Summit 100th OGC Technical Committee Orlando, FL USA USSOCOM SOFPREP – Earl Miller 19 September 2016

Agenda What our mission is What the CDB requirement is How CDB is implemented Merits in using CDB Where we have CDB Why the CDB is important to us Future use/growth of CDB Summary

SOFPREP‘s Mission

SOF CDB Requirement

CDB Implementation

Merits of CDB World-wide database (Fly anywhere in the world) Better correlation due to one database to drive all systems Provides for rapid database production Provides for real time - on the fly - database updates Database content is independent of visualization HW limitations Increased scene fidelity without reprocessing the database when you upgrade the simulator image generator Provides for publishing in real time Can be off-lined compiled to support legacy systems

Where we have produced CDB High-Resolution Base-Resolution

Why CDB is important CDB meets our mission requirements World-wide geospatialy accurate content Correlated 3D scene simulation for DMO/T Rapid production in support of real-world operations CDB saves us resources No more rebuilding same areas in disparate proprietary formats No more rebuilding 3D databases because of IG change/upgrade CDB provides us a better capability to share our data No more translating data for CDB users Open-Industry standard data layers aid in conversions Maintaining CDB is easier than compiled databases File based structure aids in data management of CDB Problem resolution is more straightforward

CDB Future / Summary Summary Be careful what you ask for because you might just get it! We do not want to stagnate the growth of CDB We do not want to destroy the underpinnings of CDB We have concerns over loosing our investment in CDB Summary Our mission is to support SOF with 3D scene visualization databases in support of their mission preparation. CDB helps us meet our mission requirements; if it changes too much we run the risk of migrating away to maintain our capability or loosing our investment to stay current.
