Current Police Services Provided by the Pennsylvania State Police No local tax dollars spent for State Police Services Enforce the PA Criminal Code Enforce State Motor Vehicle Codes Enforce Local Traffic Codes Serve Upper Frederick Township, Perkiomen Township, Skippack Township, Upper Salford Township (full time) and Lower Frederick Township (part time) as well as Schwenksville.

Why are we evaluating Alternative Police Services? State Police are short handed and cannot be in the Borough for extended periods of time. Complaints about thefts from vehicles; lack of traffic code enforcement; alleged drug activity. Vandalism and increasing need for patrols of the Perkiomen Trail Corridor. Proposed Legislation to start charging communities for State Police Services (HB 709)

Option: Purchase Police Services from Lower Frederick Township Contract With Lower Frederick Township Police Department for Police Services; same services provided to Lower Frederick Township residents. Most cost efficient alternative to State Police- $125,000.00 per year for 3 Year Contract All Officers on Duty would respond to calls in both Jurisdictions. A Schwenksville patrol sector would be created A monthly Report would be provided detailing Borough Police Activity

Lower Frederick Police Services Two officers on duty Currently Provide Police Coverage Monday-Friday 7AM to 10PM; and 10 hours Saturdays. State Police Coverage 10PM to 7AM and Saturdays and Sundays except as noted above. Police Coverage Questions & Answers

Revitalization Task Force Borough started RTF as part of a County program around 2001. Continues to brainstorm and guide revitalization efforts. First Revitalization Plan in 2002, revised in 2010. Past two years working on vision for Main Street improvements, called “Streetscaping”. Borough maintains a contract with Montgomery County for Planning Services, and two planners have been assisting the Task Force in developing this plan. Tonight one of those planners, Sarah Richardsen, is going to fill you in on what “Streetscaping” means, and what the plan includes. Many community members have served on the Task Force over the years, including borough administrators, business owners, residents both of the Borough and neighboring municipalities, for whom Schwenksville serves as their Main St. also.
