Designing a Fast Defroster for the Forgetful Chef

Designing a Fast Defroster for the Forgetful Chef Your job is to design a plate that will be the perfect defrosting device. You will be working in teams of 4 to design the plate. Keep in mind that the design will need to incorporate ideas that we learned from the tile experiments. You will need to supply a rationale for your plan based on evidence BEFORE you can build. Each group will then build 2 prototypes for testing. As a class, we will determine a fair testing protocol to determine what modifications will be necessary. Finally, we will make improvements to the prototypes and re-test to see if the modifications were helpful. This slide is here to give the teachers a sense of the whole design assignment. The next slide is the engineering cycle.

Testing Protocol In your groups of 4, brainstorm some ideas how how we could test the effectiveness of the prototypes. Why do you think it is necessary for all of us to follow the same protocol when testing the devices? What things will we need to consider when testing the devices? Be prepared to engage in a class discussion in order to generate an effective testing protocol Provide 5-6 mins The groups should brain storm all kinds of protocols, using balances etc. We can provide a debrief of the ideas. Have the tables come up with protocols BEFORE giving materials
