Leveraging a Digital Ecosystem to Transform Teaching and Learning Presented by: Jeanne Imbriale – Director, Enterprise Applications David Robb – Supervisor, Innovative Learning Projects Stacy Barry – Resource Teacher, Innovative Learning Projects All of Us

About BCPS 25th Largest School System David

BCPS’ Theory of Action To equip every student with the critical 21st century skills needed to be globally competitive, BCPS must ensure that every school has an equitable, effective digital learning environment. All students will have access to a digital learning device and personalized, blended, interactive curriculum David

Strategic Framework David

Outcomes Participants will: Develop an understanding the role of a digital ecosystem in creating a learner-centered, personalized, blended learning environment that supports diverse learning needs and provides flexible access for all users. Explore components of BCPS One, in order to identify ways curriculum development and delivery can support the customization and personalization of learning experiences. Reflect on implications of a digital ecosystem on teaching and learning in the 21st century. Jeanne

Developing a Common Understanding of an Ecosystem Stacy

Ecosystem: Building a Common Understanding Discuss: What did you notice as you manipulated the blocks? What do you think the implications would be when creating a sustaining a digital ecosystem? Ecosystem: Building a Common Understanding The Jenga tower represents an ecosystem. Each block represents one species in your ecosystem. Take turns taking one block out a time. Removing one block represents the removal of one species from your ecosystem. After a species block is removed, you must introduce a new species to the ecosystem by replacing a block on top of the tower. Discuss: What did you notice as you manipulated the blocks? What do you think the implications would be when creating and sustaining a digital ecosystem? Stacy

Translating our Understanding to a Digital Ecosystem What does “Digital Ecosystem” mean to you? Design a graphic to illustrate your thinking. Stacy

How would you define a “Learning Management System”? http://tinyurl.com/BCPSOneFETC Stacy

The BCPS One Learning Management System (LMS) will be a digital learning environment used by Baltimore County Public Schools’ educators, students, and parents in the teaching and learning process. It will support face-to-face, blended, and online learning using an interconnected system of digital curriculum, content, and assessments; student performance data; student grades; and communication. The LMS will operationalize customized and personalized learning through individual playlists, immediate feedback, opportunities for choice, and evidence of student learning. Stacy

As you explore, think about… In what ways does BCPS One ensure a learner-centered, personalized learning environment to meet the needs of all learners? What role does curriculum development and delivery of content support personalization and customization of learning? What implications does creating a digital ecosystem that supports parent, students, and staff have on teaching and learning on the 21st century? Stacy
