Aim: How does biodiversity increase the stability in an ecosystem?

What is meant by the “Circle of Life”? All living things are dependent on one another Why is this important?

Why are there so many different species on earth? Due to the evolution of related organisms ADAPTING TO different environments

The different types of species (variety of species) in a given area. Biodiversity The different types of species (variety of species) in a given area.

Look for the biodiversity of the soil

Why is biodiversity important? All living things are interdependent on one another! What happens If insecticide Is sprayed?

How do living things depend on each other? If one organism in the food web decreases, then others will either increase or decrease

What happens to an ecosystem when biodiversity decreases? Ecosystem stability decreases! Stability – the ability of the different populations of organisms to survive an environmental change.

How does great biodiversity maintain ecosystem stability? In an ecosystem with great biodiversity If one organism dies off, another may step in and take over its NICHE!

Which ecosystem has greater stability? Rainforest or Grassland The forest has greater stability because it has greater biodiversity!

How is biodiversity lost? Natural disaster & human activities

Why is biodiversity important to us? It ensures the availability of a variety of genetic material. Biodiversity has provided us with medicines, shelter, & food.
