Prologue Unit 1 WEEK 1

Day 1 Objectives: Questions you will be asked to answer Review Observation, Inference, Prediction Learn how to find the volume of a regular and irregular shaped object Prologue Podcast Questions you will be asked to answer What is an observation, inference and prediction? How do we find the volume of a regular shaped object? How do we find the volume of an irregular shaped object? What is the formula for density and where can I find this formula?

Day 2 Objective: To see how a change in temperature or pressure affect density. Questions you will be asked to answer How does temperature affect density? How does pressure affect density?

Temperature and Density Remember D= m/v V= l x w x h When heat is added to an object (temp. increased), the object expands (volume increases) Example: m = 20 g v= 5 cm3 D=m/v D= 20g/5cm3 D= 4g/cm3 Heat added: m=20g v= 10cm3 (expanded) D=m/v D= 20g/10cm3 D= 2g/cm3 So as heat increased, volume increased & density decreased

Pressure and Density When pressure is added to an object , its volume decreases. When you add pressure and crumple a piece of paper in your hand, the paper gets smaller(volume decreased & mass remains the same). Example: M=20g v=10cm3 D= m/v D= 20g/10cm3 D= 2g/cm3 Pressure added: m=20g v= 5cm3 D=m/v D=20g/5cm3 D= 4g/cm3 So as pressure increased, volume decreased & Density increased
