Vermes Miklós Primary School can be found in Csepel, on the outskirts of Budapest, capital city of Hungary.

Csepel is an island in the Danube so the river bank is close to us on both sides. There is a residential area around the school with housing estates and family houses.

We are an eight form primary school for students aged between ages 6 and 14. They come from a socially and geographically diverse area. The majority of our students use public transport to get to the school. The school is a 27-year-old two-storey building with four blocks.

You can see our Comenius Corner on the wall of the entrance hall. In the entrance hall there is the office of the Headmistress,the staffroom and the library. The school has a population of 434 girls and boys in 16 classes with a teaching staff of 38 people. Approximately 26 students are in each classes. The Comenius team consists of 7 teachers and 18 students and lots of others who help us.

Our school is well equipped Our school is well equipped. There are special classrooms for each subjects, a sports field and a big gym. Internet access assists our learners to facilitate success. The school has high but clear and executable requirements for the students. Their results and achievements are constantly monitored and our school regularly informs the parents. The continuous and efficient relationship with the parents is considered to be significantly important by the school management. The form teachers have a major responsibility to achieve this.

Our pupils do well at school Our pupils do well at school. Our school offers special English language classes from year three and special Maths classes from year five. English and Maths are taught in an increased number of lessons (4-5) in these groups. They excel themselves not only in curricular but extra curricular activities too; they regularly win prizes at school competitions and at sporting events. The main aim of the school’s educational work is to provide the students with a strong base concerning, especially Hungarian Literature and Grammar, Mathematics and their specialised subject, English, to prepare them for their further studies. It is also our top priority to educate children in a loving atmosphere.

The school takes part in a program for gifted children, called „Talent point”…

… and we are a „Bird-Friendly School” either. Another project, called „Without borders”, helps our students to get to know Hungarian mates living in the neighbouring countries. We are an eco-school… … and we are a „Bird-Friendly School” either.

Our school and its Student Council regularly organizes day trips, Maths and eco camps, pet exhibitions, school discos and lots of other programmes. Every year we commemorate about our namesake, dr.
