Absolute and Relative Location Why is “location” important?

Absolute Location What is it? the exact point where a place is located (often given in terms of latitude and longitude)

Absolute Location Examples: Edmond, Oklahoma is located at 35.7 degrees north (latitude), 97.5 degrees west (longitude) Deer Creek Middle School is located at 2601 NW 234th St., Edmond, OK 73025

where a place is in relation to other places Relative Location What is it? where a place is in relation to other places Examples?

My house is the third house on the left. Relative Location My house is the third house on the left.

Latitude:

Longitude: imaginary lines that run from the North Pole to the South Pole (measuring distance east or west of the prime meridian) also called meridians There are 180 degrees east of the prime meridian and 180 degrees west of the prime meridian.
