Initial Professional Development and Continued Professional Development in Obsolescence Management (also including Business Process Assessment) August 2017

IIOM ambition Individual Memberships of the institution will allow individuals to process up the IIOM professional accreditation ladder For engineers at the start of their career the Initial Professional Development (IPD) will start with taking an IIOM authorised course, there are currently two endorsed trainers at AIIOM level, having passed this course experiential evidence is required and will be assessed before awarding AIIOM post nominal letters

Competence Recognition Develop Competence Recognition for Obsolescence Practitioners Individuals will be able to demonstrate competence and experience to current and prospective employers. Post Nominal Letters which can be awarded are:- AIIOM MIIOM FIIOM

Membership by Examination Student No qualification required Affiliate Membership Entry Level Membership No entry requirements Associate AIIOM IIOM Endorsed training scheme and initial experience assessed by IIOM (2 years' experience) Member MIIOM Relevant experience to demonstrate competence (5 years' experience by application) Fellow FIIOM Excellence in OM 15 year experience By application

Timescales The Training package is now available from 2 Endorsed IIOM Training Companies which will form the ‘Educational’ part of the award process for AIIOM Once the Educational assessment is completed a further assessment by Fellows of the institution will be undertaken on the evidence presented by the candidate to IIOM before award of any post nominal letters

Endorsed Trainers IPD Qualifications will only be achieved through a network of ‘Endorsed Trainers’ endorsed by the IIOM

Company Assessments Future Plans Companies designing and manufacturing their own systems may wish to publicly recognise their Obsolescence Management Capability End Users are increasingly asking for evidence of the ability to manage Obsolescence in new contracts Companies offering solutions to obsolescence may also wish to demonstrate their awareness and knowledge in this area For these reasons IIOM is developing a capability assessment using international standards and the UK developed TOMCAT (Total Obsolescence Management Capability Assessment Tool) This tool offers a unique capability to demonstrate the current level of capability and guide companies on improvements needed to reach the next level

Process Assessments Future Plans Only IIOM Endorsed Assessors could audit projects and organisations for compliance against IEC62402:2007 and other International standards This also applies to the TOMCAT tool

One of IIOM’s Mission statements is to: Promote and recognise high standards of practice and professional competence We are the leading international community of Obsolescence Practitioners
