Warm-Up 1/27/17 Good morning!  In your journal, please WRITE and ANSWER the following question: How did the post-war baby boom effect the migration of the population in 1950s?

Announcements/Reminders I will be coming around to check pg. 83 in your notebook while the documentary is on- have your notebook ready please. TODAY is the LAST day for test corrections and test make-ups for the World War II Test. I am available during both A and B lunch today. You need a sheet of paper for today’s assignment.

The Atomic Cafe You need to take notes throughout the documentary- this will help you on the 5 closing questions during the last ten minutes or so of class. Along with the closing questions, you will be turning your notes in for a daily grade at the end of the class period. While the film is on, phones and tablets, etc. are put away- if we cannot do this AS A CLASS, I have an alternate book work assignment ready.

Closing Questions- DO NOT WRITE ON THE CLASS SET 1. What was surprising to you in this film? 2. How did the fear of atomic bombs affect ordinary people’s lives? 3. Did efforts to prepare/protect people from the atomic bomb do more harm or good? Why or why not? 4. Give 3 examples of modern-day ways of thinking that might be considered foolish or crazy in the future. 5. Which part of the film was your favorite? Why?

Social and Pop Culture in the 1950s (Use a separate sheet of paper) Using your textbook, read pg. 436, 438-439 about the social and popular culture in the 1950s. Using the information on these pages, you need to answer questions 6-8 on pg. 440. Your responses need to be in complete sentences. Next, read pg. 441-443, then answer questions1-2, 4-6 on pg. 443. You do have to write the questions today. This assignment will be due for a daily grade at the end of the period. If you do not finish, it is homework.

The 1950s in the United States (pg. 83) You are creating a “5-5-5” for the 1950s today. You need to write and define the following words: Baby Boom Fallout (not the Video Game) Generation gap Beat Movement Levittown Next, you need to draw AND color 5 pictures that represent these words/themes from 1950s social culture. Third, you will use each vocabulary word correctly in a complete sentence. In total, you should have 5 definitions, 5 pictures, and 5 complete sentences using the vocabulary words correctly.
