Background information

Background information PBIS Team Information Fully implemented Tiers I, II, and III PBIS Teacher Team 10 team members Team Committees Bi-weekly meetings Team Highlights PBIS Student Team Students of the Month Monthly Family Letters Engaging Behavior Incentives Teacher Behavior Meetings on CICO students

Why did we create a PBIS student team? Our PBIS Teacher Team saw a need for Student Buy-In From 2014-2015, our 4th and 5th grade students combined had the highest number of referrals over any other grade combinations Older students felt that some of the incentives were geared only towards younger students

Why did we create a PBIS student team? Our PBIS Teacher Team needed help Many of our incentives require multiple elements Art element (feathers, cotton balls, paper basketballs) Announcements Classroom pick ups Pictures

What is the Pbis Student Team? A student team that helps to support and work with the PBIS Teacher Team Team has been in place for 2 years Made up of 10 5th grade students Diverse student backgrounds 1 Special Education Student 2 CICO Students

What is the Pbis Student Team? Student Requirements Students complete a 3 page application How the follow the PAWS motto Why they would be a good member of the team Ways they show leadership Need to have teacher recommendation The team works to help develop PBIS incentives, run the Wildcat Cart, work on the PBIS website, take pictures of PBIS sponsored events, and say PBIS related announcements

What Does the Pbis Student Team Do? The team works to… help develop PBIS incentives Create signage, promote events, help younger students, pass out tickets, etc. run the Wildcat Cart Run teacher sign up on Google Drive Keep Wildcat Cart organized Deliver and pick up cart from classrooms work on the PBIS website Complete write-ups about incentives Upload pictures

What Does the Pbis Student Team Do? The team works to… take pictures of PBIS sponsored events Write and say PBIS related announcements stock up teacher’s folders Minor and Major Referrals PAWSitive Notes Home

A Closer Look at the PBIS Student Team Team members need to represent the Wilson Way (follow the PAWS motto) Able to vocalize the PAWS motto Help others to follow the PAWS motto Represent our school not only in the classroom, but also out in the community

A Closer Look at the PBIS Student Team PBIS Student Team meets on average twice a month Meetings took place after school Students also worked during recess Finish incentives Organize the Wildcat Cart Go pass out tickets in classrooms Strict attendance policy Show willingness to commit Follow a meeting format Opening remarks from advisors Group discussion Work time/Goal Setting Share Out

A Closer Look at the PBIS Student Team The PBIS Student Team mirrors the PBIS Teacher Team Same or similar committees Students report and work with the teacher in charge of the same committee Students were able to come to a Teacher meeting to understand the format and expectations before beginning their own meetings

A Closer Look at the PBIS Student Team Committee Goal Setting Each student committee is either given or sets a goal for each meeting Helps students to learn organization, responsibility, and instills a hard work ethic Shows students how to be task oriented and work with a group of people

Student choice and Voice Benefits of having our PBIS Student Team Creates student buy-in with PBIS 5th Grade students were the toughest to crack Able to create an excitement with the older students Last year, we had over 25 students apply and we accepted 10 to be on the team

Student choice and Voice Benefits of having our PBIS Student Team Helps students to better understand what PBIS is Not just understanding the PAWS motto; understanding the importance of correct behavior and how that equates in the real- world

Student choice and Voice Benefits of having our PBIS Student Team Gives students a chance to help develop PBIS incentives At the beginning of the year, the team creates a list of possible all- school and classroom incentives based on age level (4K-2 and 3-5) Surveyed classmates Examples of Student Incentives: All-school BINGO Students of the Month Movie Day FunDay Any Day Activities

Student choice and Voice Benefits of having our PBIS Student Team Teaches life skills for working with a team and accomplishing goals Organization and commitment Responsibility Team work Respect for other and ideas

Student choice and Voice Benefits of having our PBIS Student Team Encourages creativity Students participating in Brainstorming Sessions Were given PBIS data and a starter idea Example: High number of student referrals for Keeping Hands to Self Able to come up with ways to improve behavior Example: Thanks for Keeping Your Hands to Yourself Challenge Developed incentives and creative announcements Example: Students earned feathers as a class for keeping hands to self Every half a day that the classroom had no physical contact referrals, the class earned a feather to add to their turkey Classroom with the most feathers at the end of the incentive earned a special prize EXAMPLE ANNOUNCEMENT Gobble gobble, we are from the PBIS Student Team. Hope your turkey is staying warm with all the feathers you have earned! Today is the last day to earn feathers by keeping your hands to yourself.
