Fertility Specialist

Job Description Treat reproductive disorders Give treatments such as in vitro fertilization Assist couples in having a child I would like to be a fertility specialist because I want to help people start their own family. It is a field that is filled with the hope of starting a new family.

10 Characteristics of a Career Fertility specialists believe that everyone should be able to have a family. Tasks include monitoring women’s cycles, giving fertility treatments, and assisting people in having children. Fertility specialists work with people, data, and things. Fertility specialists work in a clinic in close proximity to people. Fertility specialists typically work 9-5 Monday-Friday, but they do work on some weekends depending on client need.

10 Characteristics of a Career (Continued) Fertility specialists need great attention to detail, great listening skills, compassion, empathy, and thick skin. You need 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency, and a 2 year fellowship. Fertility specialists make about $336,352 per year. Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance. There is a 24% job growth for fertility specialists. The international job outlook says that there will be greater demand for fertility specialists.

Tasks include delivering babies, monitoring reproductive health, and caring for women during pregnancy . OB/GYN’s work with people, data, and things. OB/GYN’s work inside of a hospital or clinic in close proximity to their patients. OB/GYN’s work 50-60 hours per week on average, but they are normally on call.

10 Characteristics of a Career (Continued) Important abilities include problem solving, deductive reasoning, arm steadiness, and dexterity. To be an OB\GYN, you must complete 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of medical school, and 3 years of residency. OB/GYN’s make about $263,865 per year. Their benefits include paid maternity/paternity leave, health and dental coverage, sick time, and vacation time. The job is predicted to grow 4.1%. The international career outlook predicts that the need for OB/GYN’s will increase.

Lifestyle Goals I could travel the world. I could live in a moderately sized house with the salary of an OB/GYN doctor. I could support a family with the salary. Despite the fact that I would be on call a lot, I would have vacation time, which is fine with me. I could have a dog.

Location and Career Cluster I could live anywhere in the world that I wanted as an OB/GYN doctor because they are needed everywhere. Obstetricians and Gynecologists fall in the health science career cluster because they are focused on the health of their patients.

Biostatistician

Job Description Biostatisticians analyze data and set up experiments for the doctors and scientists so that they can collect accurate data. Biostatisticians then choose appropriate tests and draw conclusions from the data presented to them. I want to be a biostatistician because I could help make impacts in medical research.

10 Characteristics of a Career Values include achievement, independence, and recognition. Tasks include analyzing data, setting up experiments, and providing explanation of data. Biostatisticians work mostly with data but also with people. Biostatisticians work in an office or in a lab when they collect data. Biostatisticians work about 40 hours per week.

You need a bachelor’s degree in statistics, but most biostatisticians have a masters degree in biostatistics. Biostatisticians make $83,310 per year and receive health insurance and dental insurance. The job is predicted to grow 14%. Internationally, the need for biostatisticians is going to rise.

Lifestyle Goals I could not travel very often making $83,000 per year. I would be able to live in a medium sized house. I would be able to support a family. I could have a dog.

Location and Career Cluster Biostatisticians can live anywhere in the United States, but there is greater demand in Texas, Washington, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, and California. Biostatistics falls under the Scientific Research and Engineering career cluster.
