“the” Terminal Degree ….to Ed.D or Ph.D…that is the question

Know What You Want…Prepare! Become a generalist Keep current with higher education trends Committee work Versed in as many functional areas as you can (including Academic Affairs)

Plan Your Search Commit A search takes time! Fill out completed applications “No place for ego” Questions to ask yourself: Local or National Search? Partners wishes and aspirations? Relocation issues? Family obligations?

Organize Your Search Resume Cover Letter Philosophy Statements *Diversity & Leadership Transcripts Letters of Reference Social Media Check Up….Facebook, LinkedIn, IG

Give Critical Thought to Accomplishments Write them down! Make a PowerPoint about you…it’s a reflective, self-esteem building activity Prepare for presentations you will give

Prepare for the Interviews (It’s much harder to be on the other side!) Phone Skype On Campus Writing samples Research the institution thoroughly! State of the institution? Budgets? In the news?

Remember…. Be confident in your abilities Keep focused on your goals There are many colleagues looking at the same jobs…but there is only one You will find the right job for you Unpack your bags (literally and figuratively) once you are in the job Show gratitude to those that helped you (reference, mentors, colleagues, family)

Time for questions….
