Making salts lesson 2

Learning intentions Describe how salts can be made from neutralisation reactions Give word equations to represent neutralisation reactions

Starter Acid Base/Alkali Neutral Can you give as many examples as possible. Acid Base/Alkali Neutral

Reactions of acids and hydroxides In pairs using 0.5M hydrochloric acid and 0.5M sodium hydroxide make a green neutral solution. Start with 10cm3 of HCl and 10 drops of universal indicator. Add the NaOH slowly until a green solution is made.

Making ammonium salts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAJAslkwolk Use only if unable to carry out demo. Fast forward to about 1min 40 secs

Word equations Write word equations for the following reactions. Hydrochloric acid and ammonia Sulphuric acid and ammonia Nitric acid and ammonia

Can you predict the products? Acid + metal hydroxide Salt + ? Acid + metal Salt + ? oxide
