Creating the book review video YouTube, GoogleDrive or Office365? Write a script in Microsoft Word that can be read in no more than 1.5 minutes. Save the script to a shareable site. Make a copy of the script (print, photo) so it is available to be read later in PowerPoint mix. Create a PowerPoint slide a. Make a text box with the title and author b. Insert a picture of the book cover c. Add animations and transitions, remembering to set start and timings. d. Save the slide to a shareable site.

Creating the book review video using PowerPoint Mix Open Office365 Portal and open OneDrive and the PowerPoint slide and Word script with the full version of each application. In PowerPoint, go to Mix*, a tab at the top of the tool bar, and record the script*. Preview the slide with the recording. Close the record window and click on Export to Video, following the instructions in the pop up window. In step 1, select Portable Devices (240p) and click Next. In step 2, save to your folder in OneDrive*. Wait until Mix has exported the video. Save and close the PowerPoint file.

Linking the book review video to a QR code Go to your OneDrive folder. Open the new mp4 file and preview it. Click Get a link*. Copy the new and add it to the Word script document. QR code. Go to https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/ Paste the link code under Enter your URL, being sure to delete the “http://” already in the box. There is an option to add a jpeg to the QR code. It didn’t work well for us because we wanted a small code to put in the book. Click on Create QR code. Right click on the new QR code and Copy Image. Paste the QR code into the script document, sizing it to 1.5”*. Check the code using a QR Reader on your phone to be sure it worked. Save the Word script document and share it with your teacher. Print a copy to turn in, as well.

Putting the QR codes into the books Laminate the script documents before the next meeting in the library. Students may locate the books themselves, or for efficiency, the books may be pulled and placed on a cart before the class arrives. Give the students their sheets, scissors and tape, asking them to cut out the QR codes and place them in the front of the books. Do not put the QR codes on the title page of the book. Select a blank lead page that the book naturally opens to when the cover is opened. Instruct students to leave room for more QR codes to be added later.

Using the QR codes in the library and in class Advertising the QR codes to the student body Part of 9th grade orientation During book talks or when students come to select individual reading books On a video screen in the library On morning announcements Using the QR codes in class Creative Writing – OTTW project on advertising Posters in English classrooms In school Live commercials

Student responses to the event survey I really didn't like the fact that it had to be such a specific format, and also the fact that we had to speak on the slide as opposed to just having words on the slide It was fun, and it is cool that something I did will always be in the school. I think the fact that the review will be forever in the novel is cool The project was very interesting and fun but a hard process. Good learning tho;) I don't think many people are gonna use the QR codes because most people just read the inside cover of the book. The idea is cool but the process of making the video was way too complicated. The QR project was a cool idea especially since we are leaving a legacy at Champe but it was kind of confusing getting started. The project is a cool idea, but I think all the computer work would've been better for a computer class, and that since this is an English class we should've just written a review.
