Declaration of Miami Joining forces for better pain treatment and promotion of pain medicine throughout the world

Declaration of Miami Joining forces for better pain treatment and promotion of pain medicine throughout the world It is the right of all mankind to have access to and the opportunity of the best possible pain relief in each and every part of the world. We, as a consortium of significant global pain societies, and witnessed by representatives from seven continents, affirm the above declaration. We further pledge to strive towards the achievement of fulfilling the mission resulting from this declaration. The world human population has now reached seven billion and is expected to grow exponentially in the future.

Declaration of Miami Joining forces for better pain treatment and promotion of pain medicine throughout the world Advances in public health, health science and medical practice will result in an increase in the population of healthy people of all ages throughout the world. There is at present inadequate access to assessment and treatment of acute and chronic pain in many parts of the world. There are major deficits in the knowledge of many healthcare professionals into the mechanism and management of pain. Most countries are unaware of pain as a health problem and there are inadequate levels of research and education in pain management. The World Health Organization estimates that three-fifths of the global population lives in countries with poor or zero access to adequate pain care for pain sufferers.

Declaration of Miami Joining forces for better pain treatment and promotion of pain medicine throughout the world We recognize and affirm that Pain Medicine is a distinct specialty with a unique body of knowledge required to treat these pain patients. We strongly affirm that all persons have the inalienable fundamental entitlement to insist on adequate pain evaluation and treatment as a human right and declare that this human right should be recognized throughout the world.

Declaration of Miami Article I. Article II. Article III. Joining forces for better pain treatment and promotion of pain medicine throughout the world Article I. The right of the global community to have up-to-date pain management in a timely manner. Article II. The right of all pain patients and their families to be informed about all possible options for possible pain relief. Article III. The right of all pain sufferers to have access to appropriately trained health care professionals.

Declaration of Miami Joining forces for better pain treatment and promotion of pain medicine throughout the world In order to further these rights, we, as signatories, request the following: That Governments and health care institutions, within the scope of their legal limits, establish laws, policies and systems that will promote the access of people in pain to adequate and up-to-date pain management. To promote this aim the World Institute of Pain, the European Federation of IASP Chapters , the World Society of Pain Clinicians, the World Institute of Pain Foundation, and representatives of other world societies have united to make this declaration.
