NATIONAL MEDIA VISITS Visits for print, radio, agency media during LS1 April 2013 - April 2014 Hello, In order to reply to the huge amount of visit requests the press office will receive as of next year and try to welcome a maximum of press during the LS1, we have decided to organize National Media visits for some media. That will allow us to welcome several media from the same country at the same time instead of multiplying individual visits.

For whom? Countries: Member States Candidate Associate States Observers In total: 28 countries Kind of media: Print press Radio Agency (print) (TVs and photographers with assignment will be handled separately) The countries that could apply for these National visits are…… The media that we would like to touch during these visits are…….

LOGISTICS FOR THE VISIT Duration: 1 or 2 days (individual interviews) Number of participants: maximum 24 people (including accompanying staff) Costs: CERN will provide meal tickets for cafeteria and transport on CERN site The press office offers 1 or 2 days visits but it is better to plan for two days as it will give us time to set up individual interviews. We can welcome maximum 24 people including the accompanying staff if they want to go underground as well. We cannot offer accommodation, travel expenses and transport outside CERN, so this will have to be at your charge or at the journalist’s charge.

VISIT PROGRAMME DAY 1: DAY 2: - Arrival at CERN and welcome - One hour CERN introduction, LS1 status and latest results - Visits underground: 2 detectors and the LHC accelerator!!! DAY 2: - Time for individual interviews (list of scientists to be decided in collaboration with you) This is the standard visit programme that we are planing, of course it can be changed according to your needs but the visit will be maximum 2 days. On the first day we will welcome the group, they will get one hour introduction and then visit underground. The LHC tunnel will be accessible for print, radio and agency press only through the National visits!!!! On the second day we plan to organize individual interviews as on the first day journalists may not have time to ask a lot of questions and they will all hear the same and have the same guide. The list of scientists will be done with your collaboration.

WARNING!!!! Depending on availability : the press office could welcome other media outside these National visits BUT we cannot guarantee what the journalists will be able to see (no LHC accelerator for sure). So we need your help to encourage your journalists from print press, radio and agencies to come to CERN through these National visits. During LS1 the press office is going to be overwhelmed by visit requests from visual media (TVs and photographers) and from media from other countries not covered by the National visits. That is why we will welcome print, radio and agency press from your country outside the National visits depending on our availability. Of course we cannot guarantee what the journalist will be able to see outside National visits. That’s why we need your help to encourage…….
