“Michael Flynn Resigns As Trump's National Security Adviser”

President Trump's national security adviser Michael Flynn has resigned Monday night amid allegations he inappropriately talked about U.S. sanctions with a Russian official, and later allegedly misled then-Vice President-elect Pence about the conversations. Flynn spoke with the Russian ambassador in December, before the president was inaugurated. Flynn issued a statement through the White House Monday evening that said he had made numerous phone calls with foreign officials to facilitate the transition, and made a mistake in what he told Pence. The move comes less than a month into the job, making him one of the shortest-serving senior presidential advisers in modern history. Gen. Keith Kellogg will be the interim national security adviser. He most recently served as National Security Council chief of staff. A senior administration official said Kellogg, retired Gen. David Petraeus and former Vice Admiral Bob Harward are possible long term replacements for Flynn. (National Security Adviser = advises the President on security issues the nation faces)

In Other News A Brain Tweak Lets Mice Abstain From Cocaine Researchers have created mice that appear impervious to the lure of cocaine. Even after the genetically engineered animals were given the drug repeatedly, they did not appear to crave it the way typical mice do, a team reports in Nature Neuroscience. "They didn't keep going into the room where they received the cocaine and they seemed to be just as happy exploring all around the cage," says Shernaz Bamji. "Addiction is a form of learning," Bamji says. And somehow, these mice never learned to associate the pleasurable feelings produced by cocaine with the place where they received the drug. (Really interesting article - http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2017/02/13/514590646/a-brain-tweak-lets-mice-abstain-from-cocaine) Saying it won't risk having to leave any students at the border because of new U.S. policies, a public school district in Windsor, Ontario, has canceled upcoming school trips south of the border. The decision was made out of caution, says the Greater Essex County District School Board, which cites uncertainty over President Trump's immigration and travel ban that targets citizens of seven majority-Muslim nations. While that ban has been put on hold by federal courts, legal arguments over it are still working through the judicial system. "We are just not completely clear on what might happen should a student's documentation be questioned and we would not want any of our students being denied entry," school board spokesman Scott Scantlebury says.
