“Joe’s Reward” By: Horatio Alger Jr.

Introduction/Conclusion In “Joe’s Reward” by Horatio Alger Jr the plot shows Joe as a hero. “Joe’s Reward” and myths include the common theme and morals of a hero. Joe is brave, selfless, and courageous. These traits describe Joe and heroes in myths. “Joe’s Reward” is a story of a heroic adventure.  Joe did not set out to be a hero that day, but by his sacrifices and actions he became a hero. In “Joe’s Reward”, the character of Joe is an unexpected hero, just like the protagonist in many myths. Introduction/Conclusion

We do not expect Joe to be a hero because he is an everyday guy We do not expect Joe to be a hero because he is an everyday guy. Joe, a simple boat pilot and tour guide dressed in a new suit for his new job. Little did he know that the day’s adventure would change his life. Joe never intended to be a hero that day, but when he decided to save a woman on his tour from drowning, he become one. The one passenger fell into the lake and almost drowned. Joe leapt into the lake and saved Mabel Mallison. Even though Joe was wearing his new clothes that he hoped would help get him a job, he still dove in. “Without hesitation he dived overboard” proves he instantly reacted like a hero and didn’t think about himself. Despite ruining his clothes, he still saved Mabel from drowning, which makes him a selfless hero. Body Paragraph
