Easter is a religious holiday Easter is a religious holiday. It comes on a Sunday between March 22d and April 25th . Just before Easter, the schools and colleges are usually closed. The students have a week or ten days of spring vacation. Easter is a church holiday, many churches have an outdoor service at sunrise on this day. It is a holiday when Christians remember the death of Christ and his return to life.
Another custom generally observed at Eastertime is Easter marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. People buy new clothes to wear on Easter Sunday. This colourful procession of people dressed in bright new spring clothes is called the “Easter Parade”. Another custom generally observed at Eastertime is the decoration of eggs and preparing baskets of eggs and candy eggs for the children.
In many sections of the country, eggs are hidden in the yards and the children have an egg – hunt trying to find them. Usually little candies and perhaps a large chocolate egg are hidden along with the real eggs. Little children believe the Easter rabbit comes and leaves the eggs for them. That is why Easter candy is made in the form of eggs and little chickens and rabbits. In Washington, the President opens the grounds to the white House so that children may roll eggs on the White House lawn.
