Agenda Overview of mental health services How can people access our services? How can they find out more information? Challenges

Overview New Horizons Adult community mental health team (Pursers Court, Slough, SL2 5BX). Secondary healthcare service Over 80 employees Multi-professionals (RMN, OT, SW, Medical, Psychology, Psychotherapy, Specialist support workers). Both LA and Health staff.

Teams Sector A and B – pathway teams Early Intervention Psychosis Approved Mental Health Practitioners Psychological Therapies Recovery Team and Hope College Assist Team – challenging personality disorder Slough Pathways Outreach Team Medics – Psychiatry

Services Medical Support – outpatient appointments Support with first episode psychosis Mental health act assessments Care co-ordination (social, environmental, physical, psychological, emotional) Psychological therapies Hope College

Hope College Use an educational paradigm to complement traditional treatment approaches. Recognising the importance of both ‘professional’ expertise and ‘lived experience’ Shared decision making – not prescription. Reinforcing people’s strengths, not focusing on what is wrong (Ashcraft & Anthony, 2005). Workshops, courses and groups to learn how to manage own mental health.

Referral Process Offered telephone or face-to-face appointment – triaged. Offered assessment with relevant professional (Dr, Psychologist, MHP). Sent to local secondary service – processed in referrals meeting – discuss appropriate pathway.
