How to apply shadow in sketches?

Learning how to draw shadows is an important skill in art which you need to master. It also shows you how shading is used simply, to define the shape of an object, be it round, flat. Once you have this knowledge, it's an easy matter to do the same thing, using paints instead of a pencil. How To Apply Shadow in Sketches

The Shadow Shadows occur when an object obstructs the path of light. The shape of the shadow is determined by the shape of an object and is a direct result of light passing the edge of the object casting the shadow. Typically, there are two types of shadow : Sunlight, and Drop Shadows. Drop shadows are shadows cast directly below on a plane by the object. How To Apply Shadow in Sketches

Natural Light Shadow There is no difference between an artificial light source and a sunlight source. The sun is so far away that the rays emanating from that light source though, converging at the source, appear parallel on earth. How To Apply Shadow in Sketches

Artificial Light Shadow Artificial light shadows are basically the same as a natural light shadow, however, our light source is a lot closer to us. With an artificial light source, lines are projected from the center of the point light source as well as the base of that light source as it intersects the plane on which the object rests. Since the lines projected aren’t parallel, the shadow that is projected will appear to get wider How To Apply Shadow in Sketches

How To Apply Shadow in Sketches

How to Make Shadow Drawings 1-Attach a piece of large, white construction paper to a blank wall with masking tape 2-Put a table about six feet from the wall, and put a desk lamp on the table. Turn on the desk lamp and turn off any other lights. The room should be dark. 3-Stand with your side towards the wall so that the light casts the shadow of your profile on the white construction paper. 4- Ask a friend to lightly trace around the shadow of your profile with a pencil. Take the paper off the wall, and make sure the pencil line is clear. Cut out the profile along the pencil line 5-Put the white profile on the black paper, trace around the white profile with a pencil and cut it out 6-Glue the black profile on a piece of white poster board or tag board. Decorate the portfolio any way you like, or leave it plain How To Apply Shadow in Sketches
