Today’s Assignment You will each get a timeline for major events & Texas forts. You will color in appropriate squares on the timeline when each fort was in operation. The columns are in three year intervals, you will need to match the number of years with partial filled-squares (the partial squares should continue the horizontal flow of the chart.) On the back a map of Texas showing the forts where Buffalo Soldiers were stationed. A class copy of an information sheet called Forts of West Texas explains the major activities at each fort. You will read about each fort, create a key of the various activities or responsibilities on each fort & draw 2 small pictures about the forts’ activities by each fort on the map. Explain the symbols in a key on the side of the map. (Some forts may have several symbols.) You will complete your 3 – 5 journal entries for a Buffalo soldier. In the entries, you should identify some of the jobs Buffalo Soldiers did on the frontier, as well as some of the problems faced by Buffalo Soldiers.
