Pots, sculptures and other articles made from clay hardened by heat. What is ceramics ? Pots, sculptures and other articles made from clay hardened by heat.

Clay Stages Plastic- workable stage; molding stage; can recycle; can join to other pieces

Leather-hard Stiff and will hold its shape; join to other pieces; carve into; recycle

Bone Dry aka Greenware Can be carved into; very fragile; can recycle

Fired once in kiln; can not be recycled; glazing stage Bisqueware Fired once in kiln; can not be recycled; glazing stage

Stoneware -second fire-high fire; can not be recycled; vitrified Glazeware Stoneware -second fire-high fire; can not be recycled; vitrified

Wedging *Slip /score* Wedging is used for eliminating lumps and air bubbles, drying the clay, and organizes the clay particles to lye in the same direction for strength. SCORE :Make hash marks on the surfaces where two pieces will be attached. Slip : thick, watered down clay (pancake mix) that is applied to the hash marks.
