DP162 Product Ideation 1 Caitlin Di Genua (student no.12817645) Glow Stop DP162 Product Ideation 1 Caitlin Di Genua (student no.12817645)

Background summery Problem brief User requirement The problem that has come to attention is the lack of accuracy with the countdown system and the fact you must be in the vicinity of the bus stop to be able to know when the bus is arriving. Must have a visual display Look modern Be easy to read Target market of 18-22 year olds

Idea generation The way I came across this idea was when on my way home from work at night I had my headphones in and the bus drove right past me causing me to wait and 20 minutes for a bus in the cold, this then gave me the idea of the glow stop.

Mind map In this mind map I covered all the ideas I had to then narrow them down to the best ideas to generate

Ideas Different shapes and ideas in which the numbers would be displayed and the design which would go with them 15

Ideas These are my drawing ideas displaying the different ideas I generated from my mind map and research

ideas Finalizing the ideas These are some of the design that I chose to be in my final with the different designs including both functions of laser and led and synchronised led’s

Models I then added a acrylic rod to the end. I then added LED’s to each circular section I also cut then to size. I started off by cutting out a circle for my model I cut out three of these in descending size. I then added metal rods to join each circular section.

models This model was constructed with plastic from a chocolate box The joining was made from cardboard to hold everything together this worked well as when the super glue dried it became more stiff and Stronger supported by the base stand Small scale LED was added to convey the view of how it would look and where it would be placed

models From the previous model I took the left over ends of the LED’s and used them to pin down the cardboard I started out by cutting out a triangle shape Cut out pieces of cardboard to signify the arrows

Models I took the packing from a different packet and joined the spheres together with superglue but it made it turn cloudy inside. These are the cutting from the moon lunar cycle I used a precision knife to cut it to size

Conclusion Concerns and issues – When doing some of my designs I came across the problem of not having enough ideas and some of my ideas might have offended people with religious beliefs. When making my models the issues were getting the foam dust and superglue in my eye. Not all of the design came across the way I portrayed them Superglue dissolved the blue foam Concerns would be that the concept wouldn’t be able to be visible and the electronics part which could be difficult.
